Ice Fishing Restrictions, Marion Reservoir
December 17, 2008 20

Synopsis:   Water level manipulation plan restricts ice fishing on Marion Reservoir.

As part of a Lake Level Manipulation Plan, Marion Reservoir is releasing water through early January 2009. As a result, ice fishing on Marion Reservoir during this time period should be considered unsafe, and ice fishing in front of the flood gates is prohibited.

The winter drawdown will drop the lake to two feet below normal pool. The lake level manipulation plan was approved earlier this year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Kanas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and the Kansas Water Office. The plan benefits fish and wildlife while adversely affecting blue-green algae and zebra mussels. Questions may be addressed to the Lake Manager at Marion Reservoir, 2105 Pawnee, Marion, KS 66861.
