This data will allow better modeling of the burial, unroofing and hydrocarbon generation history for the Appalachian basin in New York, and is part of a larger, ongoing project which will include data from several adjoining states.

All attributes created during the creation process were displayed to the screen and checked against hard copies, but no formal tests were performed.
Positions of new data generated for this report were plotted using tabular position data supplied by the New York Geological Survey. These consisted of x-y coordinate pairs in degrees, minutes and seconds or in decimal degrees taken to 5 decimal places. The true accuracy of the original data is not known, but most of the data points should be located within a second of their true locations. It is possible that some well locations were previously rounded to the nearest minute. All locations were checked against a state map to make certain they plotted within the correct Township. The state map and county outlines supplied in this report were copied from the ESRI data set supplied with ArcView 3.1. This data is appropriate for use at State and inter-county scales, but may not be appropriate at intra-county scales.
No vertically attributed features were generated for this report, so no vertical accuracy estimates are made.
All of the new data generated for this report are located within the state of New York. Some peripheral points from previous studies were included for completeness and to compliment contouring. Several of these points are located in Canada.
These data are believed to be logically consistent, though no tests were performed. Line and point geometry is topologically clean.
