Excerpts from George Vancouver (who named Mounts Baker, Rainier, St. Helens, and Hood), Lewis and Clark (who named Mount Jefferson), and Peter Scene Ogden (who named Mount Shasta), and excerpts from early explorers, pioneers, historians, and scientists, who noted volcanic eruptions during the early to late 1800s, including eruptions of Mount St. Helens, Mount Hood, Mount Rainier, and Mount Baker.
