What happens when the Force Protection Condition (FPCON) Changes?

The following is an overview of the Force Protection Conditions (FPCONs) and how they may impact movement on and off the installation.
FPCON Level Description Potential Impact on installation movement.

FPCON Normal

Applies when a general global threat of possible terrorist activity exists and warrants a routine security posture.

Normal movement on and off post.

FPCON ALPHA

Applies when there is an increased general threat of possible terrorist activity against personnel or facilities, the nature and extent of which are unpredictable.

Entering the installation becomes more difficult and spot inspections of vehicles may take place. Proper identification is checked at the entrance gates.

Allow a few more minutes to get onto the installation.

FPCON BRAVO

Applies when an increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity exists.

Random vehicle checks/searches will take place and everyone’s identification is checked.

Traffic entering post can be very congested and you should allow several additional minutes to get onto the installation.

FPCON CHARLIE

Applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely.

Random vehicle searches will take place at frequent intervals and identification is checked and verified. Escorts may be provided to and from school. Allow plenty of extra time when attempting to enter the installation.

FPCON DELTA

Applies in the immediate area where a terrorist attack has occurred or when intelligence has been received that terrorist action against a specific location or person is imminent.

All vehicles are searched and identification checked and verified before entrance to the installation is permitted. Allow plenty of extra time when attempting to enter the installation.
