The DDESS Antiterrorism, Force Protection, and Security Division provides advisory services to the Director as well as policy and guidance for superintendents and principals in areas that impact campus/school security and safety of employees and students ensuring our students have a safe environment in which to learn. Primary areas of support include:

  • Antiterrorism/Force Protection and All Hazards Planning (Mitigation, Response, and Recovery)
  • Facility security/safety design and assessments
  • Safety
  • Force Health Protection
  • Safe Schools Program
  • Pupil transportation systems

We ensure projects that enhance the security environment of DDESS schools are identified, programmed, and funded.

Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) & All Hazards Plan

DDESS has several programs to handle perceived or real threats against students, employees, and visitors. The primary program is the Antiterrorism Force Protection/All Hazards Plan. Written based on vulnerabilities that might be associated with each school, military installation, and geographic location, the plan ensures that the administration is prepared to respond to threats. This may be accomplished through the introduction of:

  • Safe Schools Programs -- bullying intervention, character education, anger management, aggression replacement, school resource officers, etc.
  • Policies -- responses to weapons possession, larceny, assault, loitering, visitor management, and other aberrant behaviors.
  • Physical Security Enhancements - items such as closed circuit TV, metal detectors, fencing, lighting, blast resistant windows, communication systems, etc.

Facility Physical Security & Safety Design Reviews and Assessments

Professional assessments are continuously applied to major remodeling, construction projects, and existing facilities to provide the highest degree of physical security protection to DDESS staff, students, and visitors according to the DoDEA Internal Physical Security Regulation and the DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings

Safety

Risk management techniques are continuously applied within all DDESS schools to ensure compliance with commonly accepted OSHA safety standards. Additionally, we assess the ability of all DDESS schools to respond to biohazards that can occur in school communal settings. Our safety programs are conducted according to the following regulations:

Pupil Transportation Systems

Our mission is to provide safe and efficient transportation to eligible students of the DDESS community. In addition, we provide special transportation to eligible students with disabilities, according to the student’s Individual Educational Program (IEP). The security and safety of all students is our highest priority.

Security and Safety Specialists work with pupil transportation contractors to ensure bussing within DDESS conforms to industry security and safety standards.
