We are committed to providing the tools, training, technical assistance, and support our schools need as they pursue their school improvement goals.

Tools, Training, Technical Assistance, and Support

The school improvement goals in all DDESS schools support the DoDEA mission to provide an exemplary education that inspires and prepares all DoDEA students for success in a dynamic, global environment.  However, each school is engaged in the ongoing school improvement process, analyzing the student performance and school/community data of their own school to develop plans to ensure all students are learning and progressing toward achievement of academic standards.

The staff and students are unique in every school; therefore, we leverage our team's wealth of experience to plan and conduct professional development that meets the varying district, community, school, grade and classroom-level needs.

Tools

Although districts and schools may have unique needs, there are some needs common to all.  The DDESS Ed Division tries to optimize our resources and reduce the duplication of effort among the schools by developing solutions to meet these common needs.  Some common solutions are:

  • DDESS School Improvement Guide
  • DDESS Accreditation Guide
  • School and Community Website Templates
  • Student Information Reports
  • Blackboard communities to facilitate resource sharing and communication

Training

The purpose of training activities are to provide high quality teacher training in support of school, district, area, or systemic initiatives. Although the method of delivery may vary, these training activities share common attributes. All activities must be:

  • Standards based
  • Delivered to teachers utilizing best practices from the professional development literature
  • Provide follow up support.

Training activities may be in support of:

  • Instructional practices or strategies
  • Content knowledge
  • Implementation of new curriculum standards or materials.

Technical Assistance

Technical assistance is generally focused on specific program content and may be narrower in scope. Technical assistance training targets a predetermined population for highly specific program specific training such as:

  • special education procedures
  • school health room practices
  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program parameters.

Consultation and Other Support Activities

The consultation role may consist of telephone or written communication or simply the “at a distance” support of promising practices such as action research, study groups, peer coaching, collaborative learning community engagement and other innovative activities.
