Dr. Elaine Beraza

Dr. Beraza began her career as an educator in Charleston, South Carolina, teaching grades two through seven. She served as an assistant principal there for two years prior to moving to Incirlik, Turkey, and Ramstein, Germany where she taught for Department of Defense Schools.

Dr. Beraza assumed a position as high school teacher and guidance counselor and was later selected as an assistant principal at Roosevelt Road Naval Station in the Department of Defense Antilles School District in Puerto Rico. She then became principal of the Ramey (K-12) School in that district. During this time, Dr. Beraza worked as an instructional mentor and developed particular expertise in job-embedded professional development.

Throughout her career, Dr. Beraza has been a forceful advocate for equitable educational opportunities for all learners. She has distinguished herself as a powerful instructional leader who has had notable success in establishing collaborative leadership teams and creating a climate of open communication among all stakeholder groups. She also has worked very successfully with school boards, collective bargaining units, and parent groups.

In 1994, Dr. Beraza was selected as the Superintendent of the West Point Dependent Schools. In 1996, she became Superintendent of the Camp Lejeune Dependent Schools. Dr. Beraza was selected for the position of Director, Domestic Schools/Cuba effective October 21, 2001.

Dr. Beraza graduated from Inter-American University (Puerto Rico) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and education. She earned her Masters degree in elementary education from the College of Charleston, and administrative certification credits from the Citadel. She then received an Educational Specialist’s degree in counseling psychology, with intern training at the Landstuhl Army Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. Dr. Beraza earned a Doctorate in Educational Administration and Leadership in 1992.
