*The Mobile Bay SLOSH Model (Sea, Lake and Overland Surge from Hurricanes) was completed by the National Hurricane Center in January 1999.

The surge maps for Mobile County were developed by overlaying the Surge water surface grid on a ground elevation grid made from USGS 7.5 minute DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) and determining which ground cells were flooded.

The Baldwin County maps were made by a similar technique but a DEM furnished by the County was used for the Ground surface.

It is important to note that the surge shown for each hurricane category is a worst case scenario and is a composite of many different storm tracks for that storm Category.
