International Training Program in Technology Transfer Available at NIH OTT

The NIH Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is offering a training opportunity to scientists and technology managers from developing countries. The program includes in-depth training at OTT as well potential rotations at other institutions, such as the Food and Drug Administration, the Patent & Trademark Office, the State Department, U.S. universities, and non-profit foundations.

The program has already "graduated" participants from the following institutions:

  • The Patent Facilitation Centre, Ministry of Science & Technology, India
  • The Medical Research Council, India
  • The Department of Biotechnology, India
  • The Indian Institute of Technology, India
  • The National Institute of Immunology, India
  • The Intellectual Property Office of the University of the Philippines
  • The Hungarian Biotechnology Association, Hungary
  • The Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon, Mexico
  • The Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences, China
  • The Centre for Scientific & Industrial Research, South Africa
  • The National Institute of Agriculture Research, Argentina
  • The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, India
  • The State University of Campinas, Brazil
  • The Technology Information Forecasing and Assessment Council, India
  • The India Council of Medical Research, India
  • The NEOS Ltd., Chile
  • The Kenya Medial Research Institute, Kenya
  • The Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Future expansion of the program is envisioned for relevant personnel from additional institutions in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Eastern and Central Europe.

OTT continues to conduct in-country training sessions on Intellectual Property and technology transfer issues pertaining to biomedical research and development and public health. Trainers from OTT have traveled to many developing countries, including China, India, Tanzania, Egypt, Argentina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Chile to support and foster local capacity and infrastructure related to technology transfer.
