Summary: House Appropriations Subcommittee Holds FY 2003 Budget Theme—Hearing: “From Bench to Bedside and Beyond”


On March 14, 2002, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education (Representative Ralph Regula [R-OH], Chairman) held the first in a series of theme hearings as part of the FY 2003 NIH budget hearings. This hearing was entitled, “From Bench to Bedside and Beyond.” NIH witnesses were Ruth Kirschstein, Acting Director of NIH; Allen Spiegel, Director of NIDDK; Andrew von Eschenbach, Director of NCI; Richard Hodes, Director of NIA; Audrey Penn, Acting Director of NINDS; and Anthony Fauci, Director of NIAID.
