Summary: House Appropriations Subcommittee Holds Final FY 2003 Budget Theme Hearing

On May 1, 2002, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education (Representative Ralph Regula [R-OH], Chairman) held the fifth, and final, in a series of theme hearings as part its review of the FY 2003 NIH budget hearings. This hearing was entitled, “Bioterrorism.” Claude Allen, Deputy Secretary, DHHS, testified on activities across the agency. He was accompanied by Anthony S. Fauci, Director of NIAID; Elizabeth Duke, Administrator of HRSA; David Fleming, Acting Director of CDC; and Charles Curie, Administrator of SAMHSA, all of whom delivered brief oral remarks and addressed questions.
