Effective August 1, 2003 the CSED will refer any returned check to a private collection agency for collection. The employer will be charged an appropriate fee by the collection agency for the returned check as authorized under Montana statute.

The CSED has the authority to suspend a license, certificate, registration, permit or any other authorization issued by an agency of the State of Montana. This includes most professional, occupational or drivers licenses, and can also include the eligibility for certain recreational hunting licenses issued by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. A person may be subject to License Suspension action when a child support debt is greater than or equal to six (6) months support, or person fails to comply with a CSED subpoena.
