* Eagle Watch 2009 - was a great success with 24 volunteers spotting 4 Eagles.
* Habitat Day – 17 Jan 09 (subject to weather & lake elevation). Volunteers needed. POC Shea Staten
* Youth Waterfowl Hunt – 31 Jan – 1 Feb 09. Open to youth ages 10 -15, accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older. Applications accepted through 15 Jan 09. POC Shea Staten

* Disc Golf Course – A partnership between the DeSoto County Disc Golf Club and the US Army Corps of Engineers will result in the new 18 basket disc golf course at Arkabutla Lake. The course should be open to the public in January 2009
* Cultural Resource Protection - Visitors are reminded that the removal of historical and archaeological features (material from old house sites, arrowheads, human remains, etc.) is prohibited. If caught, looters face arrest, fines of up to $20,000, and imprisonment for disturbing these safeguarded areas.
* Policy Changes - 2009 will usher in a number of policy changes at all of the four north Mississippi Lakes, to include the mandatory wearing of life jacket, the limited use of Deer Stands and Duck Blinds. Visit http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/lakes/ms/msprojoff/ for details.
