Corps announces 2009 recreation user fees
for camping, day use, special use facilities
and special event permits at Arkansas lakes

VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District has announced its 2009 schedule of user fees at recreation areas at lakes DeGray, Greeson and Ouachita in Arkansas. Day user fees are also charged at Corps areas along the Ouachita-Black River system in southwest Arkansas.

The fees for campsites range from $6 per night for a site in a primitive campground to $10-$18 a night for a site with electrical hookups in a Class "A" campground. Group campsites are available at some projects. The Oak Bower group camp area at DeGray Lake has 8 cabins with heat and air conditioning and a dining hall to reserve for group use for $300 per day minimum.

Certain Corps recreation facilities in the Vicksburg District are included in the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS). Visitors can reserve certain Class A campsites up to 6 months in advance of the date of use by phoning a nationwide toll free number, 1-877-444-6777. Up to 65% of the Class A campsites at DeGray, Greeson and Ouachita are not included in the NRRS and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beginning in 2009 a fee of $30 will be charged for reserving a group picnic shelter at Lake Greeson. At lakes DeGray and Ouachita, a fee of $30 per day on weekdays and $40 or $50 per day on weekends will be charged to reserve a picnic shelter. Reservations for use of picnic shelters in 2009 will be made at the applicable field office. A fee of $3 per day is charged year round to use boat launching ramps, and a fee of $1 per day is charged for use of a designated swimming beach with a maximum fee of $4 per vehicle during the fee season.

The Annual Pass for Day User Fees, which permits the holder and accompanying passengers to use all boat ramps and swimming beaches operated by the Corps
nationwide for the calendar year, will be $30 in 2009. The pass is a hang tag design which is attached to the interior rear view mirror. The Annual Pass can be used on any vehicle the pass holder owns and is valid for one year from the date of purchase.

Corps announces National Recreation Reservation System plan
for 2009 at Arkansas lakes

VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District has announced 2009 plans for the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRSTM) for recreation areas at lakes DeGray, Greeson and Ouachita in central Arkansas.

The NRRSTM is operated nationally by Reserve America, a contractor responsible for maintaining a national call center and an internet site. The Vicksburg District campsites may be reserved from May 1 to September 30 in 2009. Campgrounds will be partially opened on March 1 and fee season camping rates will apply, but the campsites will be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis until May 1st when reservations may be applied.

About 35 percent of Corps Class A campsites at the Vicksburg District lakes in central Arkansas are included in the NRRSTM. Class A campsites may be reserved up to 6 months in advance of the date of use by phoning the nationwide toll free number,
1-877-444-6777, or by using the internet at www.ReserveUSA.com.

During the recreation season, reservations may be made at a campground fee booth for reservations at that recreation area only. The NRRSTM accepts Visa, AMEX, Discover and MasterCard. The NRRS no longer accepts bank checks or certified checks as payment for a reservation.

Up to 65% of the Class A campsites at DeGray, Greeson and Ouachita will be available in 2009 on a first-come, first-served basis. In case a camping trip is planned at "the spur of the moment,” there will be campsites available for customers not holding reservations.

Class A campgrounds which are on the NRRSTM within the Vicksburg District in Arkansas include Brady Mountain, Crystal Springs, Joplin, Tompkins Bend and Denby Point at Lake Ouachita; Arlie Moore, Edgewood, Iron Mountain, Caddo Drive, Shouse Ford and Alpine Ridge at DeGray Lake; and Parker Creek, Kirby Landing, and Cowhide Cove at Lake Greeson.
