James A. Wendt, Director
Welcome to the Office of Document Reviews. Our information and document
declassification efforts promote the release of information needed by an informed
citizenry to understand and oversee the actions of its Government. To meet our mission
requirements, HS-93:
- Conducts pre-publication reviews of documents generated in classified subject areas
at Headquarters that are to be released to the public.
- Conducts document reviews for other HSS and Headquarters organizations to identify
classified and unclassified controlled information.
- Reviews classified documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act for the
Department and denies the release of the document in total or provides a redacted copy
for release to the requester.
- Implements the automatic declassification provisions of section 3.3 of Executive
Order 12958 for DOE permanent, historical records.
- Conducts Quality Control Reviews of other Government-agency documents reviewed under
section 3.3 of Executive Order 12958 to ensure that any RD or FRD has been identified.
Our staff of dedicated professionals works to ensure that the Department's information
assets are publicly released to the maximum extent possible consistent at all times with
our paramount concern for the security of our Nation.
