The Head Start Bureau announces the continuation of the National Head Start Facilities Assistance Desk. Tribal Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) grantees are invited to use this service.

The National Head Start Facilities Assistance Desk

The Facilities Assistance Desk provides grantees with information, training, and technical assistance regarding early childhood facilities. The Assistance Desk can provide support in a number of areas, including:

• Advice on disaster preparedness and recovery.
• Information about center maintenance and operations.
• General information on space utilization, project funding, playground design, safety, and other requirements specific to individual projects.
• Assistance related to technical documents, including architectural plans, specifications, bid documents, and proposals.

In response to calls, a specialist or consultant will take one or more of the following steps:

• Discuss your facilities issue with you.
• Send resource information (fax, email, or postal mail).
• Advise on plans.
• Review proposals.

Reminder: Tribal CCDF grantees interested in using CCDF funds for construction and renovation of child care facilities should contact their ACF Regional Office for information regarding ACF requirements. Prior ACF approval is required in order to use funds for construction or renovation.
