2000 Principals' Conference

Principals from Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and Japan attended a five-day conference in Tokyo, Japan, January 24-28, 2000. The event provided participants an opportunity to engage in intellectual growth and practical activities important to education leaders.

Conference speakers included staff from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Pacific Director's Office and stateside consultants. Topics included human relations, assessments, partnerships, accountability, and communications.

The commander of Pacific Air Forces addressed the importance of providing students with a superior learning environment and discussed the value of working together on quality of life issues.

Principals met in small groups to discuss areas of interest. Some of the topics included special education, parent centers, distance learning, block scheduling, budget, and service learning.

Special guests included representatives from the Pacific Theater Education Council (PTEC) and the USAF Dependents Schools Officer.

The Kinnick High School Jazz Band provided entertainment during opening ceremonies and the Yokota High School Jazz Band entertained honored guests later in the week.
