Name Heading Search Help

Use your browser's back button to return to the name search screen.

You may enter the name of a performer, performing group, narrator, speaker, conductor, etc. in direct (john smith) or indirect order (smith john). Do not include a comma in an indirect order search. Remember that many names appearing in the database are not included in the Name Browse Index due to input inconsistencies. If you do not find the desired name in the Browse Index, type the name into the input box and search. If you choose a name qualifier (Personal Name, Corporate Name, Broadcast Network, or Record Company Label Name) other than the default (Any/All) from the Name Type drop-down box, make sure it matches the name. Otherwise, your search may fail.

Sample Name Heading Searches:

strayhorn billy (Could be qualified as a Personal Name)
averell harriman (Could be qualified as a Personal Name)
leonard bernstein (Could be qualified as a Personal Name)
canned heat (Could be qualified as a Corporate Name)
NBC (Could be qualified as a Broadcast Network Name)
black swan (Could be qualified as a Record Co. Label Name)

Browsing is not the same as searching. The Browse Names index provides only a list of name headings--not bibliographic records. The browse index shows the user what headings have been used in the database. The user must select a name to paste into his/her search.
