NCCAM's director convened an expert panel on June 18, 2002 to review NCCAM's centers for research on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). This report summarizes the panel's deliberations, findings, and recommendations.

As a result of the expert panel review, NCCAM developed the following two announcements for funding the next generation of centers for research on complementary and alternative medicine:

• Centers of Excellence for Research on CAM (CERC)
• Developmental Centers for Research on CAM (DCRC)
