Why was the data set created?

The purpose of this dataset is to give geologists and other scientists a spatial database of the electrical power line network in China. This data set will be utilized in energy research and cartographic projects.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

EPIC map (source 1 of 1)
China Electric Power Information Center (ed.), Unknown, Electric Power Industry in China: Epoch Printing Co., Ltd, People's Republic of China.

    Type_of_Source_Media: paper
    Source_Scale_Denominator: 5000000 (approximate)
    Source_Contribution:
The paper map provided location and capacity of powerline networks in the People's Republic of China.

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: 1999 (process 1 of 1)
The locations of powerlines in the People's Republic were hand-digitized from 1:5000000 maps in the atlas "Electric Power Industry in China."

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Line data was captured by hand digitizing from an 5000000 paper map. Line data attributes are based on the published thematic map.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

The original paper version of powerline networks is at 5000000; resolution is limited and it is not intended to be used at a more detailed scale.

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

This data set is a complete coverage of powerlines based on information present on the original 5000000 thematic map.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

The dataset is a line coverage. Each line has a class attribute classifying powerline type.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?

Are there legal restrictions on access or use of the data?
