New Center to Explore New Technologies for Disabled Veterans
March 3, 2005
VA awarded $4.25 million over five years to researchers at the Cleveland VA Medical Center to launch the Advanced Platform Technology Center, with the goal of adapting new consumer-oriented technologies for the specific needs of veterans with spinal cord injury, limb loss and other disabilities. Early priorities of the center will be sensory and implanted control of prosthetic limbs; sensors for monitoring various biological functions; and accelerated wound healing. Future areas of exploration may include nanotechnology and micro-electro-mechanical devices.
