"Implementing Evidence into Practice: Proceedings from the State of the Art VA Conference" is a special supplement to the February issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine. It focuses on connecting research and clinical practice to improve health care quality and patient outcomes. The supplement was a result of a VA HSR&D-sponsored state of the art conference (SOTA) in 2004, which assessed current knowledge about moving evidence into practice and identifying ways to accelerate the process. The papers in this supplement are an outgrowth of the SOTA and cover a range of implementation issues and examples, including the importance of organizational structure, incentives to improve quality, and formative evaluation in implementation research.
