Brochure On VA Centers for the Study of War-Related Illnesses Distributed

Taken from the Veterans Health Administration Highlights dated February 22, 2002

A new brochure on the establishment of VA Centers for the Study of War-Related Illnesses (CSWRI) was recently shipped to all VA medical centers. The two new centers will replace the Gulf War Referral Centers, and will offer similar specialized clinical care to veterans from all conflicts.

The brochure, dated January 2002, provides information for VA health care providers about the services provided by the two new centers located at the VA medical center’s in Washington, D.C., and East Orange, N.J. The centers have academic affiliations with medical schools and other health professional schools. Additionally, they will collaborate with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Defense (DoD), including DoD's Centers for Deployment Health, to ensure lessons learned are applied to the active-duty military as well as to veterans.

The two centers, mandated by Public Law 105-368, focus on veterans' health issues including clinical care, research, risk communication, and education for health care providers. The brochure is intended for distribution to VA primary care providers, and to Gulf War and Agent Orange Registry Coordinators. Questions regarding the brochure can be directed to VHA’s Environmental Agents Service at 202-273-8580.
