OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Delaware County residents and business owners affected by the March 12 th storms and tornadoes have only one month to apply for disaster assistance. June 12, 2006 is the last day applications will be accepted for individual assistance. More than 149 registrations have been filed to date with more than $141,000 approved for the individuals and households program.

"We want people to understand that this is merely an application deadline," said Phil Parr, federal coordinating officer. "For individuals who have already applied, their cases will continue to be processed. New applications will not be accepted after the June 12th deadline."

Loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to repair or replace disaster damaged real estate and personal property must also be submitted by June 12, 2006. As of today the SBA has approved $449,700 in disaster assistance loans to homeowners, renters and businesses with losses due to this disaster.

Federal and state disaster recovery officials urge those who have not done so to apply as soon as possible. There are two easy ways to begin the application process. You may call FEMA's toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) , TTY 1-800-462-7585 . Both numbers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice, and multilingual operators are also available to answer your call. Those with Internet access now have the option to register on the agency's website at http://www.fema.gov where valuable recovery information is also available.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
