Apache Disaster Recovery Center Closing Thursday, Applicant Assistance Still Available

Oklahoma City, OK -- The Apache Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14. It will continue to serve homeowners, renters and business owners on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"A review of the DRC activity over the past 12 days indicates that representatives from federal, state and volunteer agencies have seen a great majority of the residents and business owners in Caddo and Grady Counties who have applied for assistance," said Fred Liebe, state coordinating officer for Oklahoma.
After the center closes, individuals and businesses needing more information about the disaster assistance process can call the federal/state helpline, 800-525-0321, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This service provides applicants with many of the same services received through the DRC operation.
"Residents and business owners who have not applied for disaster assistance are urged to do so now," said Joe D. Bray, federal coordinating officer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Although we will continue to accept applications for help until January 26, 2001, the sooner the call is made, the sooner the assistance can be delivered and the sooner the recovery process can begin," Bray said.
The federal/state application line 800-462-9029 will operate Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice. The hearing and speech impaired can access both the registration and helpline by calling TTY 800-462-7585. Both the registration and the helpline services will be closed on Sundays.
The following counties affected by the storms and flooding in Oklahoma between October 21 and 29 are now eligible for Individual disaster assistance: Caddo, Carter, Comanche, Grady, Oklahoma and Tillman.
