LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Federal disaster aid distributed to Arkansans affected by the March and April flooding has reached more than $1.2 million, state and federal disaster-recovery officials said today.

The deadline to register for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is Tuesday, May 27. The assistance comes under the March 28 presidential disaster declaration.

Arkansans who live in Baxter, Benton, Independence, Jackson, Lawrence, Logan, Madison, Marion, Randolph, Stone and Woodruff counties and suffered damage during the flooding should call the FEMA registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for persons with special speech or hearing needs, and register for assistance as soon as possible. The FEMA Helpline hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m., seven days a week. Applicants also can register online at any time at www.fema.gov.

"Do not disqualify yourself. If you were affected by the disaster, please register with us," said Federal Coordinating Officer Ken Riley of FEMA. "Don't pass up the chance to get aid just because you don't think you're eligible."

"Residents may be eligible for reimbursement for repair or cleanup they've already finished. They could also receive assistance for property losses or damage not covered by insurance," said State Coordinating Officer Richard Griffin of the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM). "They'll never know unless they register with FEMA."

Following is a summary of state and federal disaster relief efforts through close of business April 7 reported by officials of ADEM and FEMA.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
