Disaster Recovery Centers Reduce Saturday Hours

LONG BEACH, Miss. -- Saturday hours will be reduced in the four Hurricane Gustav Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) currently operating in Adams, Hancock, Washington and Wilkinson counties beginning Saturday, Oct. 18, announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency today.

The new hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Harrison County DRC will close permanently Friday, Oct. 17.

After a review of daily activity at the DRCs, it was determined that the majority of Saturday visits by storm victims occurred prior to 1 p.m.

The five DRC locations are:

Adams County DRC: VFW Hall, 370 Seargent S. Prentiss Drive, Natchez, MS 39120.

Hancock County DRC: St. Augustine Retreat Center, 510 North 2nd Street, Bay Saint Louis, MS 39520.

Harrison County DRC: Disabled American Veterans Hall, 2600 23rd Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501. (Closing permanently Friday, Oct. 17, 2008)

Washington County DRC: Washington Convention Center, 1040 South Raceway Road, Greenville, MS 38701.

Wilkinson County DRC: Wilkinson County Industrial Complex, 1495 U.S. Highway 61 South, Woodville, MS 39669.

Applicants should register with FEMA prior to visiting a DRC; however, help is available at the DRC for those with special needs. To register, call FEMA's toll-free registration line at  1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- and hearing-impaired. The lines are open 24 hours, everyday. Registration also is available online at www.fema.gov . Registrants should use the name as shown on their Social Security card when registering.
