One Year Following Devastating Tornadoes in Enterprise and Surrounding Alabama Communities, Federal Assistance Tops $20 Million

ATLANTA, Ga. -- A year has passed since tornadoes pummeled southern Alabama, cutting a swath across seven counties that ultimately received a Presidential disaster declaration. Since March 2007, tireless recovery efforts by state, local and federal agencies, as well as countless non-profit, private-sector and faith-based organizations, have helped to rebuild and strengthen once-battered lives and shattered communities. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports the federal share of the recovery effort has topped $20 million that includes:

FEMA's temporary housing assistance and grants for medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan.  However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
