LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - two of which opened Monday - have been deployed to four commonwealth cities.

Disaster experts are ready there to assist victims of the February tornadoes, severe storms and flooding in nine counties to obtain a wide variety of help with recovering from storm-related losses.

People in Allen, Christian, Fayette, Hardin, Hart, Meade, Mercer, Monroe and Muhlenberg counties, who suffered uninsured losses related to the Feb. 5-6 storms, will receive person-to-person assistance at the centers from specialists skilled in many disaster-related subjects.  The centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time until further notice.

The first two centers opened Monday in Allen County at the East Allen Fire Department, 1600 Lafayette Road, Scottsville, and at the Muhlenberg Community Career Development Center, 50 Career Way (next to the senior citizens building), Central City.

Centers scheduled to open on Tuesday, Feb. 26, are:

Hardin County Emergency Management Office
1450 Rineyville Road
Elizabethtown, KY

Mercer County
450 East Factory St. (Lions Park)
Harrodsburg, KY

Additional recovery centers will be opening soon in the other counties.

Disaster officials ask that before visiting the centers, people in those nine counties who had uninsured, storm-related losses to first apply for assistance by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling (800) 621-FEMA (3362) or, for the hearing- and speech-impaired, TTY (800) 462-7585. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST until further notice.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
