Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Shelby County

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The state of Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have opened a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) in Shelby County to assist residents affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding of Feb. 5-6.

The MDRC will be open daily, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. until further notice.

The biggest advantage of Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (MDRCs) is the speed with which they can be placed into service. They are RVs equipped with computers and satellite uplink capabilities. Designed as traveling disaster recovery centers, MDRCs can be centrally located in disaster areas.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
