FEMA Building Specialists To Visit Local Building Supply Stores

PASADENA, Calif. -- Rebuilding or repairing a home after a disaster, like the November wildfires, can be a daunting task. But with the right suggestions, homeowners can build back smarter and stronger. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mitigation specialists will be on-hand at local building supply stores to provide information about ways to rebuild that can reduce the risk of future wildfires and other potential disaster events.
"Following a few simple steps, homeowners can dramatically increase the chances of their dwellings surviving a wildfire," said Mark Neveau, federal coordinating officer.

"Besides talking with the subject-matter experts at the mitigation displays there are valuable handouts, including a 'Firewise Construction Checklist' and a 'Homeowners Checklist' published by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to make your home fire safe," said Tom Maruyama, deputy state coordinating officer.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
