October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Arlington's Project PEACE is conducting a community-wide campaign to raise awareness and educate people about domestic violence in Arlington. 

  • The campaign also seeks to connect those whose lives have been touched by domestic violence with the supports and services they need. 
  • Check out all of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events, Activities and Displays taking place in the community.
  • Our special kickoff event featured the former wife of DC Sniper John Allen Muhammad discussing her personal experience with domestic violence.

Got 30 Minutes? Be a Lifesaver!

Arlington County and the City of Alexandria need you to volunteer to help test our ability to deliver medications to residents during a public health emergency. You can be a part of this exciting exercise on Saturday, Nov. 8!

  • Volunteering takes about 30 minutes
  • Just walk into one of the five exercise sites to pick up simulated medications for yourself, your family and any neighbors you would assist in the event of a real emergency.

10 Year Plan to End Homelessness

Arlington's community-wide effort to bring an end to homelessness has reached an important milestone. With the establishment of a Leadership Consortium and Implementation Task Force committed to carrying out the recommendations and initiatives set forth in the 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness, community leaders are rolling up their sleeves and getting to the business of making a real difference in the lives of people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. FitArlington’s Smoke-Free Restaurant Guide

Many Arlington County restaurants have recognized the benefits of going smoke-free by voluntarily deciding to offer patrons and employees a smoke-free environment. Arlington County applauds these businesses and their support in making Arlington a community in which being healthy and fit is a way of life for people of all ages and abilities.

The Department of Human Services' Public Health Division has compiled a list that includes full-service restaurants that have told Arlington County they are smoke-free. Don’t want a dose of smoke with your next meal? Check them out at FitArlington!
