MOWAA Foundation

The mission of the Meals On Wheels Association of America Foundation is simple yet ambitious: the eradication of hunger and malnutrition among America’s seniors and others in need.

Because of the enormity of this undertaking, the Foundation recognizes that its mission cannot be achieved by a single entity or by a single initiative alone.  Therefore, the Foundation intends to accomplish its mission through a variety of activities, namely public awareness-building, research, education, fundraising and community involvement.

The Foundation’s purpose and vision are much more expansive than simply providing financial support to local senior meal programs, however.  The Foundation intends to become the nationally-recognized authority on and voice for senior nutrition and hunger issues in the United States.  It will be the entity to which the general public, the corporate sector, and public policymakers at every level of government will turn both for information about and for opportunities to contribute to the effort to eradicate senior hunger in America.

The raising of public awareness will be a critical objective of the Foundation, as awareness is essential to fundraising, community involvement and other Foundation activities.  The linchpin of the Foundation’s public awareness work, at least at the outset, will be the “March For Meals” campaign.  The next major initiative for the Foundation will likely be the National Center for Nutrition Leadership (the Center).  The Foundation’s two other core activities – research and education – will be housed in and conducted through the Center.
