Commanding officer of USS Harry S. Truman meets with Gov.-elect Nixon

Gov.-elect Jay Nixon met with Capt. Herman A. Shelanski, commanding officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in Jefferson City on Dec. 3. Capt. Shelanski (at right in photo) and Capt. Andy Lewis (at left), air group commander for the carrier, were visiting Missouri on a goodwill promotional tour. Commissioned in 1998, the Harry S. Truman is based in Norfolk, Va., and has served the United States in missions around the world.
