AGO and State & Local Law Enforcement

The Attorney General's Office works with law enforcement to fight crime and protect the safety and welfare of all Missourians. Public Safety Division attorneys serve as general counsel for several law enforcement agencies such as the Highway Patrol and Water Patrol. The division's Meth Prosecution Strike Force can assist law enforcement in investigating and prosecuting methamphetamine cases throughout the state.

The High Technology and Computer Crime Unit assists law enforcement in investigating computer- and Internet-related crimes. The team helps law enforcement with investigative and legal issues, providing language for search warrant applications, executing search warrants, and securing and analyzing computer and digital evidence in its Jefferson City forensic lab.

The High Tech Unit and Missouri Deputy Sheriffs' Association periodically present regional two-day training programs. These POST-certified, 12-hour programs introduce officers to the challenges presented by the increased use of computers and Internet to commit crime.

Participants learn how to conduct online investigations, and search, seize and secure computer systems and digital evidence.

Racial Profiling Reports

Missouri law enforcement officials are required by state law to report certain information on all traffic stops conducted in the state. Information for the 2007 annual report was due to the Attorney Generals' Office by March 1, 2008.

The Attorney General requests that all law enforcement agencies electronically file their annual reports.

Vehicle stops report

The 2007 annual report on vehicle stops in Missouri, mandated by a 2000 state law on racial profiling, documents 1,564,452 traffic stops, 123,808 searches and 89,537 arrests made by 636 law enforcement agencies across the state.

Incident Report Form

An incident report form was developed by the Missouri Press Association, Police Chiefs Association, Sheriffs' Association and Attorney General's Office with the understanding that it complies with the Sunshine Law. The form is not mandated and is not intended to replace any valid incident report already being used by agencies. The PDF form is coded and can be filled out on the computer.
