The preserve celebrates Junior Ranger Day on April 26, 2008. Children of all ages may visit the preserve from 9 a.m. until noon to complete a Junior Ranger booklet and Leave No Trace Scavenger Hunt. Upon completion children will earn a Junior Ranger badge, certificate, and patch with a special awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Join the fun and be a Junior Ranger Today!

A single blade of big bluestem might have a root system descending over 8 feet underground. This is deep enough so that the plant will emerge in the spring even without rainfall. Big bluestem grows abundantly on the Southwind Nature Trail.
