about alm: privacy policy

If you have any concerns or questions regarding this site's privacy statement, you should first contact us directly by emailing amlep@leprosy.org. We promise to respond to you promptly.

What is your commitment to privacy?

We believe the trust donors have placed with us is the key to our success. Please review the privacy policy to understand how your personal information will be treated as you use our web site. We also understand the concerns donors have with using their credit cards for online transactions. It is therefore our best interest to protect your credit card information in order to provide you with the best service possible.

What is your Full Disclosure?

This donation engine is powered by Online-Giving.com for American Leprosy Missions. Any personal information obtained on this site is for the sole use of American Leprosy Missions and will not be sold or used by other partner non-profits except in a general and aggregate fashion. OG may accumulate individual data for analysis to help American Leprosy Missions build an effective Internet strategy. Please be aware that our partner Online-Giving has their own policies regarding use of personal information. We recommend that you contact Online-Giving if you have special concerns about your personal data.

How do you use my personal information?

We will never sell, trade, share, or rent your personal information to other charities, merchant partners, or to any other companies or individuals without your prior consent.
We partner with a third-party credit card processing company, as do many e-philanthropy web sites. This partner securely manages all customer data in accordance with consumer data protection laws enacted worldwide, including data handling, storage, and security.

Why do you need my personal information?

When you make a donation, you need to provide your name, email address, credit card, and billing information. This information allows us to process and fulfill your donation and to notify you of your donation status. When you set-up your Giving Portfolio at the Online-Giving.com site, we may ask for your email address and a password. You can optionally provide your name, zip code, and request to receive news from us by email.

Do you track me on your website?

Yes, we may collect your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our website. (An IP address is the unique number that is assigned to your computer automatically when you log onto the Internet.) We also use IP addresses to monitor visitor traffic patterns and site usage to help us further develop and improve the content and design of our site. We do not link your IP address to anything personally identifiable about you.

Does your site use cookies?

A cookie is a piece of text that can be entered into the memory of your browser. We use cookies to save your Donor ID so you don't have to re-enter information each time you visit our site and to keep our database free of duplicate records. If you disable cookies then your information will not be saved and will have to be re-entered each time you visit the site. We do not store your credit card information with the Donor ID stored by the cookie--that information will have to be entered upon each donation. This site does not discriminate from the online contact information we collect with regard to age. Therefore, it is possible for children, without prior parental consent or parental notification, to submit contact information.

Can I opt out of receiving information?

Yes. Upon registering, you can request to receive email communications from us. These messages will always contain unsubscribe instructions. You can also update your email communications preference by logging into your secure accounts. Requests for account cancellation should be sent to amlep@leprosy.org. We reserve the right to maintain information on registered users who have violated our Terms of Service or who have had their access to us blocked in order to detect repeat offenders.

What happens if someone uses my credit card for fraud?

Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank can not hold you liable for more than $50.00 of fraudulent charges. We guarantee that if your credit card was compromised, through no fault of your own, as a result of transactions completed at our site, and your credit card provider holds you liable for any charges, we will compensate you for the amount of your liability up to $50. This means we do not cover fraudulent charges if your card was lost or stolen. In the event of unauthorized credit card use, or if your card is lost or stolen, you must notify your credit card provider immediately in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
