Oxfam America

Our Approach

While Oxfam employs a variety of strategies to achieve our mission, the goal in all our endeavors is the same: to enable poor people to exercise their right to manage their own lives.

Addressing Emergencies
When disaster strikes, Oxfam provides immediate assistance to save lives. Once the urgent danger has passed, we help people restore their lives and prepare for future crises.
Global Reach
Oxfam America is able to work on the ground in more than 30 countries. But being part of the global Oxfam International family—a confederation of 13 Oxfams—expands our reach to more than 120 countries.
Campaigning for Change
Oxfam remains committed to community-based work, but we know there are larger barriers that keep people from thriving. Through our campaigns, we challenge laws and policies that reinforce poverty.
Local Partnerships
Oxfam collaborates with local organizations to help people identify and address the root causes of poverty. Today, we maintain relationships with more than 250 partners on the ground; these strategic alliances are the key to our success.
Human Rights
From the world's poorest countries to right here in the US, too many people don’t know they have rights, let alone how to realize them. Oxfam introduces people to their human rights—a critical first step to empowering people to overcome hardships.
