President Bush to Recognize Michigan Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service |
|
President George W. Bush will meet Judy Hunt when he arrives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, October 30, 2004. Hunt, 65, is an active volunteer with Gilda's Club Grand Rapids, an organization that provides support for people living with cancer and their loved ones.
President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corps to help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Hunt, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
Hunt has been volunteering at Gilda's Club for nearly four years. Three to four days a week, Hunt helps with mailings and publicity for fundraisers and special events. She also moderates discussion groups and leads craft classes and programs for children. In addition, Hunt has been a volunteer in the pain clinic and the neonatal unit at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
