USA Freedom Corps Hosts Volunteer Fair at the White House in Support of National Volunteer Week |
|
In support of National Volunteer Week, USA Freedom Corps hosted a White House Volunteer Fair which provided staffers with ideas for volunteer opportunities in the local DC/Virginia area. White House Chief of Staff, Joshua B. Bolten participated in the volunteer fair, thanking staffers for answering the Call to Service. Miss Beazley, one of the President and Mrs. Bush's Scottish Terriers, also stopped by to lend support. Twenty local non-profit organizations participated, representing volunteer opportunities serving the disabled, elderly, homeless, hungry, refugees, animals, and youth; serving those with HIV/AIDS, other health issues, and law needs; serving on issues related to arts & culture, emergency preparedness, the environment, literacy, and supporting our troops; and international volunteer service opportunities.
In his January 2002 State of the Union Address, President Bush called on all Americans to make a difference in their communities and across the globe through volunteer service. He created USA Freedom Corps, an Office of the White House, to help Americans answer his Call to Service. Visit www.volunteer.gov or call 1-877-USA-CORPS to find an existing volunteer service opportunity and to find more information about volunteer service programs.
