Message from David Eisner on Fiscal 2006 National Service Budget |
|
Dear National Service Colleagues:
I am writing to let you know of several new developments related to the Corporation’s fiscal year 2006 budget.
Yesterday President Bush signed a fiscal year 2006 continuing appropriations resolution to keep many government programs, including those of the Corporation, operating through December 17.
The action follows the rejection last Thursday by the House of Representatives of the conference report on the fiscal 2006 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill. That bill includes funding for the Corporation and its programs, along with the nation's health, education, and social programs. In the version of the bill that failed in the House, recommended funding for the Corporation and its programs for fiscal year 2006 was $909.049 million – the same amount as recommended in the version of the bill passed by the House in June and approximately $12 million below the President’s request.
Exactly how these latest developments will ultimately affect funding for the Corporation for the current fiscal year is uncertain, but we wanted to let you know of them as soon as possible. We will continue to share information as it becomes available.
Sincerely,
David Eisner Chief Executive Officer Corporation for National and Community Service
