Across the globe, companies like UPS need well-trained, ambitious employees to further their
success. Successful businesses spark economic growth, fueling healthy communities. The task
of improving today's workforce while preparing America's youth for the challenges of tomorrow
remains critical.
UPS is committed to preparing our next generation of business leaders and thinkers by supporting diverse
education programs. From partnering with the United Negro College Fund and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund
to offer assistance to minority students to offering a generous tuition assistance package to our own
employees, we are involved in strategic efforts to provide education assistance.
In this section, you'll find descriptions of UPS's employee education assistance programs as well as
our scholarship programs.
The UPS Foundation recently approved the following grants to support literacy around the world:
- World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)/Girl Guides Association of South Africa (London, England): $71,995 to increase volunteer capacity and provide literacy and income generation training to at-risk women.
- The National Center for Family Literacy (Louisville, KY): $286,203 to develop and test a model approach for building the capacity of non-traditional partner organizations to deliver effective literacy services to families with working parents: to National Center for Family Literacy (Louisville, KY).
- The National Council of La Raza (Washington, DC): $300,000 to build the capacity of community-based organization networks in six communities to address the critical early literacy and family literacy needs of Latinos.
- ProLiteracy Worldwide (Syracuse, NY): $297,435 to build the capacity to engage volunteers to deliver improved services to low-level English as a Second Language learners and reach more learners with more effective services.
- Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education (Chapel Hill, NC): $246,818 to build the capacity of campus-based programs to meet the literacy needs of teen learners.

Award Honors UPS and Fickett Elementary Partnership
UPS and Fickett Elementary have been jointly honored with the Atlanta Partners for Education's 2008
Mentoring Partnership Award.
The award recognizes a partnership between UPS and Fickett, which has provided college student tutors,
UPS employee volunteers and foundation funds. UPS was particularly cited for fostering one-to-one relationships
between students and adults, for personalized support and a caring atmosphere. |
