UPS Sustainability

Connecting the World Responsibly

Every day, UPS delivers to thousands of businesses, homes and communities around the world. Our operations include 425,000 employees, planes, vehicles, facilities, call centers, data centers, retail stores and much more. We recognize that our presence is large and our responsibility is great. Consequently, every employee is a part of UPS's role in being a good citizen, a good employer and a good neighbor. Our corporate strategy states, "We build on a legacy as a caring and responsible corporate citizen through the conduct of our people and company in the communities we serve."

We've been building that legacy for over 100 years. Since 2002, the company has produced a corporate sustainability report, the first in the transportation industry. Our sustainability report is a way for UPS to report on activities that have been part of our corporate commitment to social, economic and environmental responsibility for decades.

Economic

By facilitating the flow of goods, information and funds, we help companies, large and small, thrive in today's increasingly competitive marketplace. Our business also benefits employees, shareowners and communities through wages, taxes, dividends and charitable contributions. Our goal is to run a financially sound business, in a socially responsible and financially sustainable manner, to ensure our ongoing ability to positively impact the stakeholders with whom we interact every day.

Social

Today, synchronizing commerce is more than a business process or an emerging industry space. It's about operating in unison with employees, communities and governments to foster greater global economic prosperity and encourage individual achievement.

As we deliver across the globe, we’re not just transporting packages. UPS creates a connection of people and communities. This connection results in trust and collaboration, performance and accountability, and careful, attentive service to our customers. It starts with attracting and retaining a skilled, motivated and safety-conscious workforce and extends to a global community engagement strategy that includes grants, charitable donations and employee volunteerism.

Environmental

We know that good environmental decisions are typically good business decisions. UPS constantly reviews our processes to make sure we are reducing our environmental impact, which includes examining how we drive, fly and conduct business worldwide. We service customers with a highly integrated single network that is unique in our industry. This sophisticated network minimizes environmental impact through the ability to move air product by ground and ground product by rail – and connects all modes on a single route delivered by one driver – producing significant reductions in energy use, fuel consumption and emissions. At the same time, we are working to advance new industry technologies to reduce emissions and conserve energy.
