  • PRESIDENT BUSH SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER EXTENDING THE PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL ON SERVICE AND CIVIC PARTICIPATION.  On Thursday, January 27, 2005, President George W. Bush signed an Executive Order extending the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation through January 2007. The Council promotes volunteer service and civic participation in American society, and encourages the recognition of outstanding volunteer service through the presentation of the President's Volunteer Service Award by Council members and Certifying Organizations, thereby encouraging more volunteer service….

  • HELP TSUNAMI DISASTER VICTIMS.  The United States is actively participating in a massive international response to help the victims of this disaster. President Bush made an initial commitment of $350 million for disaster relief. Additionally, President Bush asked former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton to lead a nationwide charitable fundraising effort to encourage private donations to the relief effort. Millions of dollars have been donated by individuals and corporations across our Nation. Americans are being asked to donate money to organizations listed at www.usafreedomcorps.gov....

  • PEACE CORPS ESTABLISHES SOUTHEAST ASIA TSUNAMI FUND.  In response to the devastation in Southeast Asia, the Peace Corps has established the Southeast Asia Tsunami Fund. Contributions to the fund will support Peace Corps Volunteer-led projects, and 100 percent of donations will be used in the affected communities....
