  • PRESIDENT’S EMERGENCY PLAN FOR AIDS RELIEF FUNDS HELP SEND CRISIS CORPS VOLUNTEERS TO ZAMBIA.  Four returned Peace Corps volunteers recently arrived in Zambia as Crisis Corps volunteers, the first in the country to be supported by President George W. Bush's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez received confirmation in July that the Peace Corps would receive more than $1.1 million from the President's plan to enhance programs in six African countries heavily impacted by the virus….

  • FOUNDER OF ‘A MILLION THANKS.ORG’ RECEIVES PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD.  The founder of A Million Thanks.org, Shauna Fleming, received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her efforts to help Americans send thank you letters to members of the U.S. military. To date, A Million Thanks.org has sent more than one million letters to service members. Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of USA Freedom Corps Desiree T. Sayle, and Executive Director of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation Kari Dunn presented the award to Fleming on Wednesday, November 17, 2004….
