  • Corporation for National and Community Service Announces Grants to Support 17,000 AmeriCorps Members.  In its first major round of AmeriCorps grants in 2004, the Corporation for National and Community Service recently announced grants to 28 national and local organizations to support 17,000 new AmeriCorps positions. The grants, totaling $2.8 million, will engage AmeriCorps members in projects across the nation to teach in low-income school districts, restore parks and trails, tutor and mentor at-risk youth, build low-income housing, and mobilize volunteers to meet other vital community needs....

  • Join the Medical Reserve Corps.  Administered by the Department of Health and Human Services and headquartered in the Office of the Surgeon General, the Medical Reserve Corps coordinates the skills of practicing and retired physicians, nurses and other health professionals who are willing to volunteer during emergency situations and help with other public health matters. MRC unit volunteers also work to improve the overall health and well being of their communities and engage in appropriate public health initiatives throughout the year such as administering youth immunizations and flu vaccinations….
