  • AMERICORPS AND ITS PARENT AGENCY TO RECEIVE HISTORIC FUNDING INCREASE.  The 2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill recently passed by the Senate and signed by President Bush contains an historic funding increase for AmeriCorps that will support a record 75,000 AmeriCorps members to meet needs in local communities across the nation. The funding package reflects President Bush's commitment to expanding and improving the programs of the Corporation for National and Community Service as a part of the overall effort to foster a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility in America....

  • Peace Corps to Receive Record High Funding.  The United States Senate recently passed the 2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, which will provide the Peace Corps with $310 million in funding for Fiscal Year 2004 and $15 million for volunteer and agency efforts to fight the AIDS epidemic around the world. The total Peace Corps allocation of $325 million will be the largest appropriation in the history of the agency....

  • USA FREEDOM CORPS CELEBRATES ITS TWO-YEAR ANNIVERSARY In his State of the Union address on January 29, 2002, President Bush issued a national Call to Service -- urging Americans to dedicate two years -- or 4,000 hours -- over the course of their lifetimes to service. Since then, the USA Freedom Corps has mobilized more Americans to engage in volunteer service, strengthened national service programs, supported the teaching of American history and civics, and established new volunteer initiatives to better serve important community needs....
