|
President George W. Bush will meet Crystal Regan when he arrives in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday, September 17, 2004. Regan is an active volunteer with the EastLincoln Pregnancy Counseling Center.
President Bush hascalled on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Regan, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
Once a week Regan teaches classes on parenting techniques, nutrition and budgeting, answers the phone, and counsels clients who have unplanned pregnancies. The East Lincoln Pregnancy Counseling Center was created in 1998 by the Westport Baptist Church to provide counseling, education, and support services to young women with unplanned pregnancies who decide to parent their child or who choose to place the child for adoption. Regan also teaches abstinence classes at the Lincoln County public high schools as a part of their human development curriculum. In addition, she mentors a sixth-grader from Pumpkin Center Middle School once a week.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
