Project Homeless Connect Week Successful

The first week of December marked the 4th annual Project Homeless Connect (PHC) events being held across the country. PHC, an initiative of the Interagency Council on Homelessness, is a public - private collaboration to end chronic homelessness. The events are one-day, one-stop service stations that allow the homeless to quickly and efficiently take steps towards ending their homelessness. These events are run by thousands of volunteers partnering with service providers, the business community and federal and state partners.

NFL Players Honored with the
President's Volunteer Service Award

Over the past two weeks, USA Freedom Corps joined with the National Football League (NFL) to honor players with President's Volunteer Service Award for giving back to their communities, particularly by promoting the importance of fitness and health among youth through the NFL's PLAY 60 campaign. Members of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation and the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, as well as senior White House staff, presented the awards.

President Bush Recognizes San Antonio Family for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush presented the President's Volunteer Service Award to mother and daughter Lidia and Becky Oprean upon arrival in Waco, Texas, on Friday, December 12, 2008.  The Opreans are founders and volunteers with Becky's Hope Ministries.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 675 volunteers, like the Opreans, since March 2002.
