HOW TO BECOME A PEER MENTOR

“You first have to make sure that you’re in the right place mentally and emotionally. …..it’s not a one way experience. You will learn about yourself and your own healing process as you help others. Helping others will help you.” - Marie Campbell, TAPS Peer Mentor

You have travelled along the journey through grief. You have endured and have found strength and courage to continue. You wish to use your experience to help others who must endure the pain of the death of someone they loved and cherished. You can step forward in a spirit of hope and become a TAPS Peer Mentor!

By volunteering to become a Peer Mentor, you will provide a companion to newly bereaved individuals yearning to find others who understand. TAPS Peer Mentors do not serve in a therapeutic capacity. We offer a listening ear, information about the grieving process and peer support. It is an extremely valuable gift to give!

It is a task that can provide hope to others and honor the memory of YOUR loved one. It is a task that should be given great consideration. It is an opportunity to take your experience and make a difference in the lives of others! Our Peer Mentors are THE vital link in our circle of love, care and hope!

Each peer mentor candidate is asked to be at least one year beyond the death of their loved one and is required to take an online training course prior to attending classroom training.
